Our Honeymoon Was In Jamaica

After we got married and after the wedding of our dreams was over there was this sense of calm that came over everything.
This sense of, “we did it“.
This is what it’s all about.
No more stress of “When will he ask?” or “Will he ever ask?”
No more wondering.
No more waiting.
This is where I had always wanted to be.  After waiting 8 years for him to ask, he did, and a few short months later we were husband and wife.
After our family left and we said our good byes, it was just us, and we were blessed enough to be able to revel in this moment alone on an island called Jamaica.

It was a place neither of us had ever been, and we spared no expense to have the honeymoon of our dreams.  We stayed at an all inclusive Secrets resort in Montego Bay that was only for adults, quiet and romantic, and full of every amenity you could think of so that if we chose to, we could stay on the resort the entire time and be content.  And that’s pretty much just what we did.
We had done the excursions on an island before and we had gone at a fast pace on vacations before trying to see every sight and do every activity, but this was different.  And we. were. TIRED.
The entire first day we slept.  We made love, and we slept some more.  We called for room service and we didn’t leave our suite for about a day.

Under The Moonlight

The first night after finally venturing out of our room we went to a restaurant on the grounds and sat outside.

On this particular night the super moon had decided to join us.

On this particular night a man with a guitar decided to sing our wedding song.
This particular night was in a word, “perfect“.
There aren’t many memories of which allow me such emotion or such crispness as if I was there all over again.  But this particular night swept me up and created that vivid memory so that on this day, almost three years later, I am able to remember every detail.
The way he looked at me across the table.  The way the waiter placed the napkin on my lap so gracefully and how the menus’ pages lit up.  The way the super moon illuminated the table and the way my eyes welled up with tears as the guitar began to play, our wedding song, “All of Me”.  And how he laughed because he knew I was blown away and he was too.

The rest of the honeymoon was amazing, complete with a snorkeling excursion that left us with a sunset that took our breath away, crazy nights with new friends and days spent playing volley ball, basking in the sun and having Jerk Chicken every day from the cart for lunch (I still crave it some days).
Our new friends had eloped and invited us to be a part of their wedding and we were completely honored to do so.  And before we said good bye to Jamaica we took advantage of a private dinner on the beach and talked about trying to have our first child for the first time.  Sure, we had talked about having kids before, but never with such reality and planning.

Our honeymoon is something we will never forget and something we will always cherish.  And now that we have our first child, we know this time was exactly what we needed before taking the plunge into parenthood.
